Teaching Standards in Australia
- The Australian Government supports nationally consistent approaches in the development of education policy for the teaching profession. The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (Teacher Standards) underpin a nationally consistent approach to teacher registration. All teachers are required to demonstrate they meet the Teacher Standards in order to obtain or renew registration.
- The Teacher Standards, as a public statement of what constitutes teacher quality, provide a nationally agreed quality assurance mechanism that ensures teachers in Australia have the required competencies to be effective educators.
- All states and territories have linked the Teacher Standards to teacher registration requirements.
