Public access to information

The Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth) allows access to information held by the Commonwealth Government.  The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) protects individuals' rights to privacy and allows individuals to make complaints about the handling of their personal information by entities covered by the Act.  The States and Territories also have relevant legislation.
