Investigation into generating/identifying appropriate data for this UN SDG Indicator is currently underway.

The Australian Government has invested in a research project to estimate the prevalence of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) in Australia, including the rate per 1,000 girls and women aged 0-4 to 75 years and over who have undergone FGM/C. The research is due to be published late 2018. The Australian Government has also invested in research to improve FGM/C hospital record data collection. A report on the extent to which FGM/C information is collected with recommendations for how to improve data collection is due mid- to late 2019.
